Adult Formation

According to Pope John Paul II, the fundamental goal of adult catechesis is to reveal the mystery of Christ, that is: to reveal in the Person of Christ the whole of God’s eternal design reaching fulfillment in that Person. The definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ: only He can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy trinity (Catechesi Tradenae 5).
The parish encourages a living, explicit, and fruitful profession of faith for all disciples (GDC 66) through sharing groups, published video series, Bible study, and spiritual books. For more information on our program selection, contact Terri Chang at 757-564-3819 or tchang@stolaf.cc
Adult Faith Formation is currently seeking facilitators for the ‘25 - ’26 year to lead Catholic-based studies. If you feel called to guide others on their spiritual journey, please reach out by emailing tchang@stoaf.cc or contacting Terri at the office. The studies for 2025- 2026 year are:
Lectio: Eucharist - Dr. Brant Pitre digs down to the biblical roots of the Eucharist, through its foreshadowing in the miraculous events of the Old Testament, the Gospels, and Apostolic teaching.
August 28- October 30.
Lectio: Peter: Cornerstone of Catholicism - The character of St. Peter is both inspiring and confounding to many of us. How could a stubborn and impulsive fisherman become the 'rock?' Bringing together biblical accounts, historical evidence, and personal insights, Dr. Tim Gray gives a fresh perspective on Simon Peter . October 15- January 7.
Galatians - Dr. Michael Barber and Dr. James Prothro, professors of Sacred Scripture at the Augustine Institute, study St. Paul’s pivotal letter to the Galatians. November 6- January 22.
Pillar I: The Creed - opens up the structure of the Catechism and shows how it is far more than a list of “faith facts,” but instead a sure map for the journey of faith. Sean Innerst teaches how what we believe emerges from the living story of salvation history. Pillar I reveals that our journey of faith is one from “Blessing to Blessing”—that the God who made us wills that we return to him. January 2026
No Greater Love - more information to follow in the New Year.
